The Panel of Judges

YAA Tan Sri Dato’ Siti Norma binti Yaakob

Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Siti Norma Yaakob,PSM,SPTJ,DSNS,JSM retired as a Judge of The Federal Court Malaysia and as the Chief Judge,Malaya on 6th January 2007, ending a 431/2 career in the Judicial and Legal Service and in the Malaysian Judiciary. During that time, she has served in various capacities and was elevated to the High Court Bench in 1983, appointed a Court of Appeal Judge in 1994, a Federal Court Judge in 1994, a Federal Court Judge in 2001 and the Chief Judge, Malaya in 2005.

Since her retirement she has been appointed a Pro-Chancellor University Malaya for a period of five years w.e.f. 16th May 2007.She sits on two Boards, one as a director and the other as Chairman. She is also a member of the International Advisory Panel to the NAM Institute for the Empowerment of Women, having been so appointed by the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development in August 1007. Recently she assumed the Chairmanship of CIMB Foundation, a non profit organization that supports philanthropic activities and corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Tan Sri Dato’ Seri (Dr) Lin See-Yan

Dr Lin is a strategic and financial Consultant. Prior to 1998, he was Chairman/President and CEO of the Pacific Bank Group and for 14 years previously, Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia ( the Central Bank), having  been a central banker for 34 years. After retiring as Chairman of EXCO Khazanah Nasional in 200, Dr Lin continues to serve the public interest, including Advisor, Public-Private Partnership Centre at PM’s EPU, and Member of the National Steering Committee to Transform Higher Education as well as the National Innovation Council; Economic Advisor, Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of M’sia ; Pro –Chancellor Universiti Sains Malaysia; Trustee, Malaysia University of Science & Technology; Board Director, Monash University (Sunway Campus) Malaysia; Member, Advisory Board of the Malaysia-Japan University Centre and Governor, Asian Institute of Management, manila as well as member of the Asian Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee. In addition, he sits on the Boards of number publicly listed and private enterprises in Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia engaged in food & beverages, mining, leisure/hospitality, plantations, power, oil & gas, chemicals, manufacturing, housing & property development (including shopping malls), insurance & financial services, software, and education. He is Chairman Emeritus, Harvard Graduate School Alumni Association Council at Harvard University as well as its Regional Director for Asia, Harvard Alumni Association in addition to being Member, Visiting Committee for Asian Studies at the university (2003-06). Dr Lin is President, Harvard Club of Malaysia and Advisor, Association of Harvard University Alumni Clubs of Asia (AHUACA) since 1998. He is also Professor of Economics (Adjunct), Universiti Utara Malaysia. In addition, he is a Trustee of;Tun Ismail Ali Foundation (PNB);Harvard Club of Malaysia Foundation; Malaysian Economic Association Foundation; and MAKNA (National Cancer Foundation) as well as Mentor Counsellor, LIN Foundation.

Professionally qualified in the UK as Malaysia’s first (and only) chartered statistician, Tan Sri is independent director, banker, economist, and advisor to corporates and government. He received 3 post-graduate degrees from Harvard University (including a Ph.D. in Economics) where he was a mason Fellow and Ford Scholar, and where he continues to maintain close links; and was founding Deputy President of the Association of Harvard University Alumni Clubs of Asia (AHUACA) in 1998. He is a US Eisenhower Fellow and Fellow of the following professional organizations: IMF Institute (Washington D.C.); Royal Statistical Society (London); Malaysian Institute of Bankers; Malaysian Insurance Institute; Malaysian Institute of Management; and Malaysian Economic Association. He is also Distinguished Fellow, Institute of Strategic and International Studies Malaysia.

YAD Datin Paduka Prof. Dr. Jamilah Ariffin

As the President of JUITA, and Advisor to the social welfare council of Johor, Prof.Jamilah Ariffin has been responsible for establishing no less than 12 welfare projects within the state of Johor. Her program to implement 58 day care centers-one at every State Assembly constituency in Johor, has served over, 1,800 intellectually disabled children, and awarded the Best Community Rehabilitation Project in Malaysia for 2 consecutive years. She was also responsible for successfully implementing a half way house for abused children and abandoned babies equipped with counseling and rehabilitation for these children in Trauma. In appreciation of her contributions toward social welfare in the state of Johor, Professor Jamilah was awarded Darjah Paduka Mahkota Johor (DPMJ).

 In terms of service and contribution towards academia, Professor Jamilah has served for more than 30 years as a university professor in “Development Studies” and researcher in “Women and Development”. She is at present Adjunct Professor of the Gender Studies Programme, University of Malaya.

 Professor Jamilah is the first Malaysian to be selected by the Commonwealth Secretariat in London to study the impact of Structural Adjustment which issued the important publication titled “Women and Stuctural Adjustment” in 1990.

 Included in Professor Jamilah’s extensive portfolio of service to Malaysian society, is as the main consultant for the Malaysian government in the United Nation’s Beijing Women’s World Conference, Beijing China(1995) and published “The Status of Women in Malaysia”.

 Professor Jamilah was directly responsible for drafting and lobbying the first chapter on “Women and Development” for inclusion into the Sixth Malaysia Plan. This led to the creation of the Department of Women’s Affair (HAWA) and subsequently, the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.

 Prof.Jamilah was also a board member of the Swiss Academy of Development in Switzerland comprising prominent Sociology professors in the world.
