Her Royal Highness Tengku Fauziah - Raja Perempuan Of Perlis
er Royal Highness Tuanku Fauziah binti Tengku Abdul Rashid, D.K.,
S.S.P.J., S.P.M.P., is a princess of the royal houses of Terengganu on
her father's side and Kelantan on her mother's side. Tuanku Fauziah is
the daughter of Yang Amat Mulia the late Tengku Abdul Rashid ibni
AlMarhum Sultan Sulaiman of Terengganu and Yang Amat Mulia the late
Tengku Petri binti Almarhum Sultan Ibrahim of Kelantan. She was born on
June 6 1946, and spent her early years in Kota Bharu, Kelantan.
As a student at Zainab English School, Tuanku Fauziah enjoyed
recreations and sports such as stage acting, netball and rounders. Due
to her talented and artistic nature, Her Royal Highness's pastimes and
interests include interior decoration, cooking and sewing. Always very
concerned for the less fortunate, Tuanku Fauziah has long been active
in various charity work.
At the very young age of 17, she became engaged to Tuanku Syed
Sirajuddin, who at that time was still studying in the United Kingdom.
In order to prepare her for her future role of consort to the heir and
later to the ruler, Tuanku Fauziah was invited to stay with her future
husband's family while they lived at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur as the
Yang DiPertuan Agong and Raja Permaisuri Agong of Malaysia. During her
stay with her future in laws, Her Royal Highness made trips back to
Kelantan whenever necessary.
On February 15 1967, Tuanku Fauziah was given in marriage to Tuanku
Syed Sirajuddin who was then the Raja Muda of Perlis. In recognition of
her new position, she was conferred the prestigious Seri Paduka Mahkota
Perlis (S.P.M.P) award by her new father-in-law, the late Tuanku Syed
Putra, eight months later. On April 30 1968, the princess was
officially created "Duli yang Teramat Mulia Raja Puan Muda Perlis".
As a young bride, Her Royal Highness accompanied her husband on all
his postings as a junior military officer. However two years later, she
returned to Perlis for good when Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin decided to take
on his official role as Crown Prince of the State.
Her Royal Highness is the proud mother of a son, Tuanku Syed
Faizuddin Putra, Raja Muda, and Sharifah Fazira, Tengku Puteri Mahkota.
Being a very caring person she is exceedingly close to her only
daughter-in-law, Lailatul Shahreen, Raja Puan Muda and only son
-in-law, Mohammad Yaakob. Her Royal Highness constantly converse with
her eldest granddaughter, Sharifah Khatreena and is most concerned with
the little princess's academic and leisure interests. In the year 2001,
Her Royal Highness became a grandmother twice, first with the birth of
Putri Nurlin Syazwani to the Tengku Puteri Mahkota, and then with the
birth of Yang Amat Mulia Sharifah Farah Adriana to the Raja Muda.
Among her friends, her husband's and her own family, her generosity
and genuine consideration for everyone's well being is common
knowledge. She has been known for her concern to go to great lengths to
visit friends in hospital, to pay her respects to families in mourning
over the loss of their loved ones, to shower a new mother with gifts
for her baby and to personally telephone to congratulate or to say
hello.
As the Consort of the new Raja, Tuanku Fauziah is just as humble and
just as unpretentious as her -in-laws before her. Yet in her official
capacity as Raja Perempuan, she is always dignified and elegant. Among
her most enduring characteristics is a genuine effort to personally
greet and meet as many guests as possible at whatever function she
happens to host or grace.
Her Royal Highness Tuanku Fauziah was officially declared "Duli Yang
Maha Mulia Raja Perempuan Perlis on July 14, 2000. On December, 12
2001, HRH Tuanku Fauziah was officially declared as "Seri Paduka
Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong" when her husband Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin
became the 12th Yang Di Pertuan Agong of Malaysia.
